Coordinating Bar Stools with your Existing Kitchen Aesthetic

I am searching for some bar stools for our island. We have been having a hard time because our cabinets are a cream color with vintage distressing and our wood floors are like a maple color. We have metal decor in the kitchen and would love to tie that in.

Hi Lauren!

Thanks so much for reaching out! Finding the perfect bar stool to accompany an existing kitchen design is a dilemma I find many struggle with! You have everything seemingly pulled together-cabinet finishes, countertops, bar pendants- and that one lingering design choice can potentially throw off the entire remodel! It can feel like a daunting decision, but I am confident I can guide you in the right direction!

You are spot on to suggest pulling in ties to the industrial detailing of your space. Upon first glance at images of your kitchen, my first thought was to add a piece with an industrial edge. This will flow alongside your existing style and will add a touch of whimsy and personality. I find that it is more important to choose stools that work with the cabinets and counters than with the flooring as the flooring typically acts as a base for the design but does not dictate it. That said, you have a bit of flexibility here being that your cabinets are light in finish. I would suggest amping up the contrast with a dark finish on the stool! I would, however, be sure to choose a metal that would coordinate with the finishes that you have, so either a worn silver or a bronze would be a great choice! I have included several bar stool selections that I recommend for your space below!
